Students from Bodaibo Mining College carried out a visit to Polyus’ Verninskoye Mine to learn about digitalization from company specialists. The students were able to enter the processing plant and its dispatch control room, where process automation is widely spread, and to see the Wenco operating system. The visitors also paid close attention to advanced technologies that have been introduced at the Chief Surveyor’s Office. 16 undergraduates in total took part in the excursion, IrkutskMedia Information Agency reported, citing the company.
Teachers from the mining college also visited the Verninskoye Mine. Having learned about new technologies, they were able to adjust their curriculum, shifting its focus on digitalization and automation.
We gained a lot of useful details from our visit, said Olga Beker, teacher of mining disciplines at the Bodaibo Mining College. The processing dispatcher control room impressed me a lot — it operates just as an advanced facility should. I was also pleased to see a number of our graduates working at the mine.
The Verninskoye Mine is deeply involved in student engagement, as it is particularly focused on educating and training specialists who are willing to apply their knowledge with regard to process automation. Around 70 students have completed training programmes at the Verninskoye Mine this year. It is worth noting that these students did not just come from universities and colleges in the Irkutsk Region, but also from leading engineering institutions in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Tomsk, Yekaterinburg and other Russian cities.

As a result of the 2019 training programme, the Heads of Operation and Production departments recommended around 40 undergraduates for potential offers of employment at Polyus Verninskoye.
