Today President of Polyus gold mining company Eugene Ivanov spoke at 2nd Krasnoyarsk Investment and Development Forum. His presentation focused on a new strategic initiative from Polyus – a sustainable development program for gold mining regions.

Polyus will complete its sustainable development plan for Krasnoyarsk by 2006 and will report on its progress in conformity with the GRI guidelines. President Ivanov said that adopting sustainable development principles and GRI reporting is a part of corporate development strategy aimed at making Polyus a global Top 5 gold company by 2010. Krasnoyarsk region will be the first region for Polyus to implement this initiative, others will join in.

Polyus is one of the largest taxpayers and employers in Krasnoyarsk region. In 2004 the company paid over a billion rubles in taxes to the local budget. On the other hand, Polyus is investing heavily in infrastructure and production projects in the region and will continue to grow and develop its business in Krasnoyarsk.
