Polyus Gold Mining Company and Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia today announced the commencement of the long-term philanthropic programme aimed to support orphanages and particularly focused on promoting sport among children in orphanages. This is the first stage of the program, which is to be carried out in all regions of Russia where Polyus has its operations.

In order to design this programme in 2005 Polyus granted 5 mln. rubles ($175 000) to the Charity Foundation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia. The programme provides extensive supplies of equipment for summer and winter sports to children in orphanages in 4 regions of Russian Federation.

Commenting on the event, Polyus’ CEO Evgueni Ivanov said: “Providing our aid to the children we are not just aiming to make their life better, but we would like to contribute to their physical development”.
